Stoney Ridge Farms is a 77 acre medium size maple syrup farm in the Town of Farmington, New York. The owners, Chris and Melinda Rodas met in 2004, selling maple sap from their small sugar bush of 400 trees while managing a black angus cow/calf operation, certified by the Beef Quality Assurance Program. In 2013 they expanded their maple operation to 3200 taps, built a new sugarhouse and installed state of the art equipment. Plans are underway to activate other untapped sugar bushes in the area.
The farm was originally in the Melinda (Rodas) Power family and was known as the Power Farm in the late 1800’s. Growing up on the farm, Melinda was active in 4-H, showing beef cattle and horses. A graduate of St. John Fisher in Business Management with a human resource concentration, Melinda now works at Tractor Supply, formerly assistant manager, currently working in shipping and receiving while raising a family.
Chris Rodas works at Ingleside Machine Co. INC in Victor and is a aerospace certified welder, building his own evaporator and other maple equipment, and is currently designing a new tap for maple saplings. In his early years, Chris worked at the Gillis Farm in Victor, where he met his maple syrup mentors, Chuck Winship from Sugarbush Hollow and Jack Lauder and received additional support and farm Knowledge from Terry Rothfuss and his Grandpa John Rodas. Chris and Melinda’s new addition to the family is Charlie, born in October 2013 and their pride and joy.
